Implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) Model Based on Students' Socio-Emotional Development in the Civics (PPKN) Subject (Topic: Norms) for Grade VII at SMP Sunan Giri

Abstract

The development of emotional intelligence and social interaction among 7th-grade students at SMP Sunan Giri specifically during Civics (PPKn) lessons on the topic of Norms has not yet reached an optimal level. This situation is characterized by students' lack of confidence in expressing opinions, low levels of collaboration, and the emergence of boredom; this is particularly concerning given that adolescence is a stage requiring approaches that facilitate emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques comprising observation, interviews, and documentation, this study aims to describe students' socio-emotional development through the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model. The results indicate that the TGT model effectively stimulates students' socio-emotional development through three key components. In the "Team" stage, students demonstrated increased empathy, responsibility, and cooperation; in the "Games" stage, they successfully practiced emotional regulation, cheerfulness, and resilience; and in the "Tournament" stage, their self-confidence, relationship skills, and sportsmanship improved significantly. Thus, the TGT model proves to be a relevant instructional strategy, capable of fostering socio-emotional intelligence while creating a meaningful and enjoyable learning atmosphere for the study of norms.
