Introduction

Journal of Advanced Intelligent Systems (JAIS) is a peer-reviewed international journal committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the publisher, Majelis Ulama Kota Probolinggo, Indonesia.

This publication ethics statement is based on the Core Practices and Best Practice Guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and serves as a framework to ensure the quality, credibility, and integrity of scholarly publishing.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal constitutes an essential contribution to the development of a reliable and respected body of scientific knowledge. Published articles reflect the quality of research conducted by authors and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed publications uphold the scientific method and facilitate the dissemination of trustworthy research findings.

Journal of Advanced Intelligent Systems is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of scholarly merit and are free from commercial, political, institutional, or personal influence. The publisher and editorial board are dedicated to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record and supporting ethical research and publication practices.

Allegations of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication of data or results.
  • Falsification or manipulation of research data.
  • Plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
  • Citation manipulation.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Unauthorized use of copyrighted materials.
  • Manipulation of the peer-review process.
  • Misrepresentation of authorship or contributorship.

When allegations of misconduct arise, the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board will investigate the matter in accordance with COPE guidelines. Manuscripts found to contain evidence of misconduct will be rejected. If misconduct is identified after publication, appropriate actions may include publication of corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or removal of the article when necessary.

The journal reserves the right to contact authors' institutions, funding agencies, or relevant authorities when serious ethical violations are suspected.

Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding which manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published. Editorial decisions are based on:

  • Scientific quality and originality.
  • Relevance to the journal's focus and scope.
  • Methodological rigor.
  • Significance of findings.
  • Ethical compliance.
  • Reviewer recommendations.

Editors must not use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts for their own research without the author's explicit written consent.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts through constructive feedback.

Promptness

Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or cannot complete the review within the specified timeframe should immediately notify the editor and decline the review invitation.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with unauthorized individuals.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear arguments supported by evidence.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and notify editors of any substantial similarity between the manuscript and other known publications.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must not use privileged information obtained through peer review for personal advantage and should decline review assignments involving conflicts of interest.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors should provide an accurate and honest account of the research performed, including sufficient detail to allow replication and verification of the results.

Fraudulent, fabricated, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access, Retention, and Reproducibility

Authors may be requested to provide raw data, source code, datasets, models, or supplementary materials for editorial review.

For studies involving Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Computational Intelligence, authors are encouraged to provide sufficient methodological details to ensure transparency and reproducibility whenever possible.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are entirely original.

Any use of another author's work, data, software, figures, or words must be appropriately cited and acknowledged.

The journal screens all submissions using plagiarism detection software.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal or publish substantially similar research in multiple journals without proper disclosure.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of prior work must always be given. Authors should cite influential publications relevant to their research.

Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to:

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.
  • Significant use of AI tools should be disclosed in the manuscript when appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, personal, or professional relationships that could influence the interpretation of their findings.

All sources of funding must be clearly acknowledged.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

Authors who discover significant errors in their published work must promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief and cooperate in issuing corrections, corrigenda, or retractions when necessary.

Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, personal data, sensitive information, animals, or hazardous materials must comply with applicable ethical standards and regulations.

Where required, authors must provide evidence of ethical approval from a recognized ethics committee or institutional review board.

For studies involving AI systems, datasets, automated decision-making, surveillance technologies, or sensitive personal information, authors should address ethical considerations, fairness, transparency, privacy protection, and potential societal impacts.

Intellectual Property and Copyright

Authors retain responsibility for ensuring that all copyrighted materials used in their manuscripts have been properly authorized.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening followed by a Double-Blind Peer Review process involving at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript's subject area.
